Programme Aims

  • To equip participants with the confidence, knowledge and skills in order to develop and implement creative and innovative relationships and sex education for young people.
  • To provide participants with an understanding of the key issues relating to the delivery of relationships and sex education including; personal belief systems, adolescent sexuality, consent and confidentiality and access to contraceptive and sexual health services.
 
 

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the HYP HOP RSE Training participants will be able to:

1. Debate and challenge key documents and relevant issues surrounding relationships and sex education incorporating a holistic approach including emotional and personal well-being, sexual orientation, culture and diversity

2. Demonstrate an awareness of their own personal belief systems in relation to relationships and sex education and adolescent sexuality

3. Competently facilitate the HYP HOP Relationships and Sex Education Programme to young people and define ways in which the resource can be used in order to enhance the sexual and emotional health of young people

4. Identify local contraception and sexual health services and consider themes of engagement and service development







Indicative Course Content Including Learning and Teaching Strategies

The HYP HOP RSE training programme will explicitly link with the intended learning outcomes detailed above. Debate and guided discussion will challenge personal attitudes to relationships and sex education as well as legal, political and religious influences. All presentations and group exercises are included within the delegate packs and will aim to inspire ideas for delegate’s own professional practice leading to development of high quality relationships and sex education programmes in order to meet the needs of all young people

The HYP HOP Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Training Programme will provide:

  • Pre-course questionnaire and material for delegates to review as background reading prior to attending the session outlining relevant key documents (Learning Outcome 1)
  • Power Point presentation to examine key data (Learning Outcome 1)
  • A values and personal belief systems exercise undertaken as a group activity (Learning Outcome 2)
  • A quiz to critically evaluate the legal framework for the delivery of relationships and sex education, (Learning Outcomes 1, 3 and 4)
  • Presentation of the DVD ‘The Letter’ and discussion relating to delay messages and peer pressure (Learning Outcomes 3 and 4)
  • A Review of the HYP HOP RSE Resource and an opportunity to plan, deliver and evaluate a relationships and sex education lesson from workshops contained in the resource including communication, love and relationships, self esteem, values and attitudes, media and peer pressure, contraception and sexually transmitted infections (Learning Outcome 3 and 4)
  • A S.W.O.T analysis in order to consider the delivery of RSE in individual settings and identify ways in which professionals can become agents of change (Learning Outcomes 1,2 3 and 4)
