Resources: Girls Growing Up

These activity booklets have been designed for children and young people with a special education need in response to an identified need by parents, care workers and teaching staff. The booklets were developed with significant input from both parents of children with a special need including mild to moderate learning disabilities and their children.

The activity booklets were recently launched during a series of HYP HOP road shows which focused on relationships and sex education for children with special educational needs and the response has been very positive. Teaching staff from primary schools have also highlighted that they are also very suitable for the puberty sessions undertaken in mainstream primary schools.

The booklets have been designed to facilitate discussions between children and their parents, carers and teachers about growing up and puberty in a sensitive and interactive manner. They are also ideal as a means of communication between school and home.
